PRINTMAKING 2022
                     
The Journey of Putu Oh Putu contains a compilation of my art project, such as 
subject inspiration, research, works process, the artworks, and publication from 
the Putu series. It is one of the series of my artwork journey as a Fine Art 
lecturer. My excitement for contemporary printmaking, combined with my ideas about 
Malay traditional art, became an experimental field to prove the unity of form and 
content are interrelated. For me, teaching and art practice is research for the benefit 
of my students. The finding never ended, continuous until you retire as an academician!
    

                         

The End of PUTU - this title contains mixed feelings for me. This artwork is the last 
piece created by me as an academic - art practitioner. I will be retiring soon, and there 
will be no more conversations in the classroom. Another meaning is the loss of appetite on 
PUTU biscuits were replaced by other non-Malay foods. In my artworks, Putu biscuits are used as 
a metaphor for traditional Malay food. My new favorite quick and instant dishes are trending 
food nowadays, as shown through the various commercial printed tissues collected while I was 
dine-in. The mixed collage prints between the relief technique of Putu images and the restaurant 
brand printed tissues produced the effect of hybrid printmaking. This new effect creates blur 
and unclear Putu images representing the ongoing loss.
